maintenance guide for products
Following correct installation of the product there should not be a
requirement for mechanical or installation maintenance to it. However
it is wise to periodically undertake a visual inspection of the
installation to ensure that the screws or fixings have not worked lose
or undone. If they have, attend to the problem immediately.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE SHOULD BE
UNDERTAKEN REGULARLY AS DETAILED
Polished Brass
All tube is unlacquered, we can lacquer on request. Please check your
Sales Acknowledgment if unsure whether your items are lacquered or not.
We recommend that brass handles and products that are in high wear areas
are not lacquered which means that they will need to be regularly
cleaned with a propriety metal cleaner such as Brasso to maintain their
high luster. An application of wax polish will inhibit tarnishing,
however the amount of protection given is dependent upon the atmospheric
conditions surrounding the installation.
Polished Brass Lacquered
Not suitable for items in areas of high use. Our lacquer is an
electrophoretic stove dried lacquer which will wear and scratch when in
contact with metal, jewellery etc. Maintenance should consist of wiping
with a soft and slightly damp cloth only. No abrasive cleaners or
chemicals should be applied.
Chrome Plate on Brass and Stainless Steel
These finishes require cleaning with a damp cloth dipped in soapy water
to remove dirt and grime, drying off with a dry cloth. Any persistent
marks that are difficult to remove should be polished away using a
proprietary cleaner such as chrome cleaner or similar.
Chrome Plate on Mild Steel
Should be treated as described above but care should be taken not to use
a wet cloth as the base material is ferrous and will rust if in contact
with moisture or used in a damp atmosphere. Cleaning and maintenance in
areas where mild steel products are situated should be considered, e.g.
mopping floor etc.
Brass Dye Lacquered
This finish is a decorative finish only and may wear over time. Cleaning
should be with a soft dry cloth only.
Aluminium
Anodised aluminium is a resilient finish to aluminium extrusions. It can
become stained by handling from persons with a more acidic perspiration
than usual and may well pick up atmospheric dust and dirt. If this
occurs we recommend wiping down with a cloth dipped in soapy warm water
and then drying off with a soft dry cloth. Abrasive or grit like
cleaners should not be used on anodised finishes, they will turn surface
dull and damage the base metal. For matt anodised finishes, in order to
protect the colour of the finish, items should be cleaned in cool water.
Powder Coat
'Polyester power coat' requires regular maintenance. It is recommended
that the coating is cleaned with a damp soft cloth dipped in a solution
of mild detergent (eg washing up liquid) and water. If the coating
becomes damaged in any way and the base material is revealed immediate
repair should be carried out. In areas of high atmospheric pollution it
is advisable to maintain the coating at more regular intervals.
Rope
Maintenance should be carried out by simply washing in warm water with a
small amount of fabric detergent added. It may be that slight shrinkage
of the rope will occur. If dry cleaned, the rope should be thoroughly
dried and all traces of cleaning agent removed prior to re-installation.
Draylon Rope
Dust should be removed frequently with a soft brush - first against the
lay of the pile and then the other way to smooth it. It is not washable,
a damp cloth with warm water can be used carefully. Do not Use a coarse
brush. Do not put near direct heat.
Retractable Strap
To clean, regularly wipe with a slightly damp cloth. The strap itself
may crease if folded - when linked to an end post or wall end, the strap
should straighten.
Joinery with Melamine or Lamination Surfaces
General purchase furniture polish should be used with a soft cloth.
Moisture should be avoided on the edges of products so to avoid swelling
and distortion.
Joinery with Lacquered and Painted Finishes
Again furniture polish should be used with a soft cloth. Damp cloths can
be used but caution taken when cleaning the edges and joints. Avoid
placing sharp and hot objects on the surface. If scratches appear
through wear, wax can be applied over the varnish. Always read the
guidance and instructions when using products to maintain the finish and
appearance.
